Private Electronic Devices - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 494 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2019/04/10 Category Society Essay Level High school Tags: Social Media Essay Did you like this example? The first and perhaps most important aspect of this scenario refers to the distractions attributed to the use of private electronic devices (PEDs) in the workplace. The rampant use of these devices between patient checks can lead to disastrous consequences. Papadakos (2013) describes the use of these devices in healthcare settings as a significant challenge towards professional engagement with peers and patients. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Private Electronic Devices" essay for you Create order Additionally, the rampant use of the PEDs also poses a risk to patient safety. For example, a nurse who texts as he or she administers to a patient may make errors in patient care owing to the distraction. Papadakos (2013) claims that screen addiction, especially concerning social media undermines a professionals ability to perform to the best of their knowledge since their minds are preoccupied with irrelevant content much like the scenario suggests. For instance, upon realizing the patient is a celebrity, I proceeded to share the information rather than listen attentively to the patients condition. It is the role of organizational, administrative organs to address the issue. However, most often than not, professionalism in the workplace demands those personnel remain focused on their work. Additionally, healthcare institutions demand patient-centered care, which requires full preoccupation with the patient rather than distractions such as Social media. On the other hand, the legal framework surrounding the professionalism in the healthcare industry remains a vital consideration in this scenario. The American legal system safeguards the privacy of all its citizens in the Fourth Amendment of the constitution. It promotes the right to privacy as a fundamentally American principle. As such, the healthcare industry is obliged to conform to these regulations with a few exceptions. The HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) of 1996 is a piece of legislation that promotes the privacy rule in the healthcare industry (Agris Spandorfer, 2016). The act encourages the continuous coverage of subscribers to insurance. It also reduces incidents of insurance fraud. However, the legislations directive on the management of patient information through protection and confidentiality is relevant to the issue at hand. My decision to take pictures of the patient at different levels of undress and identifying information without conse nt represents a violation of the privacy rule. Firstly, the collection of this information using a personal device in operations outside the professional requirements of the job indicates little effort in protecting the patients identity and information. Secondly, sharing this information with a friend also fails to adhere to the legal care standards of confidentiality required. Taking these pictures with the understanding that celebrities are public property is a gross under oversimplification of the issue of confidentiality and consent. The privacy rules allow exceptions to the collecting and sharing of personal identifying information (Agris Spandorfer, 2016). One of these exceptions allows the patient or a designated proxy to offer consent for the sharing of information. However, the patient was unconscious and therefore, unresponsive. As such, taking and sharing the photos violated the patients privacy and denied him the opportunity to provide or refuse consent.

Czechoslovakian Split free essay sample

A paper which discusses the ramifications for the two countries the Czech and Slovak Republics after the Czechoslovakian split. A discussion of the problems facing each of the nations from the former Czechoslovakian Republic, now that they are separated. The paper discusses environmental issues, political and foreign relation complications as well as church-state relationships. Change is rarely easy. Change becomes harder when a nation that has existed for a long time needs to dissolve into two different nations, each with its own set of problems. Economic and social change from a government controlled to a free market doesnt come easily and problem free either. Czechoslovakia is an example of such a situation. The countrys dissolution has been called the peaceful divorce. [Otto Ulc. p.1-3] Czechoslovakia had only few cities with a population over 750,000 and had been plagued by large variety of environmental and economic problems. Another problem results from the fact that the two separated nations dont wish to have much to do with the other, and thus the new nations are plagued by bad foreign relations with each other and remaining eastern European countries. He notices that Miss Webster appears to be hard on the outside, however, soft in the middle appearing to be tough to every one else but revealing that she really does have feelings. We know this because the boy notices how brave Miss Webster was when she trapped her hand in the cupboard door he is amazed that she did not cry. He then notices that at her boyfriends funeral procession that she was very brave yet again. The author uses child like language to shape the story and its meaning: For example, when the boy was describing how his brother was eating the porridge Norris used language that sounded as though it were coming from the tongue of a child itself a form of a list, as in: Then he did this, then he did that and so on, like a young child would do when they were describing something to an adult around them. There are a lot of direct or vivid sentences, those that are simple and easy for a child to understand. For example: The Boy Nodded. Line 186 and The Boy Drew A Robin Line 103. Miss Webster describes the Snowdrops as being asleep throughout the summer, underneath the ground! The boy believes that this is the key to understanding the world around him. It also symbolises the renewal of life that comes in the spring. The story has a main symbol in it: The snowdrop symbolising an emblem of new life. Throughout the story the boy builds up an excitement and suspense as he waits to see the snowdrops, and it is finally rewarded when he actually sees the flowers. (When this happens the boy has a climax of mixed emotions: i. e. he sees them as both resilient and fragile. This also represents how things are portrayed differently through the eyes of a child and how emotions are magnified or amplified, in effect. ) The boy notices that the snowdrops bend and survive even the most bitter winter weather, and they come back every year, burning with life, ready for the spring. All of this represents the determination and willpower that some humans actually have, and how they can bounce back after being knocked off their feet. This is exactly what the boy sees Miss Webster do she makes her hand bleed by shutting it in the door and she had to have a bandage but she did not cry. He also sees how brave she was when she was watching the funeral procession we suspect that he is amazed at how she can shrug off the things that weigh her down, in effect. The end of the story is very significant as Miss Webster reveals her emotions by crying out loud in front of the children: Miss Webster continued to cry aloud in the midst of the frightened children This proves, in effect, the boys theory of that his teacher is hard on the outside an soft in the middle as she finally shows her emotions to her dead boyfriends funeral procession, and so proves to the world that children portray things differently and not everyone, including life, is what its made out to be.

Art history, native american art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Art history, native american art - Essay Example This paper will discuss the native history of American art. Native American art comprises of oil, pottery, basketry, wood, leather and water or sand paintings (Phillips and Berlo 10). The creativity that is involved in American art is regarded as sacred and limitless. According to the Americans, the use of art is continually identified as a form of expression. Their artistic works present their love for the environment. In their native way of life, the Americans considered art as a symbol. They usually made their artwork through the use of materials such as fabric, clay, feathers and rocks among others. In the Native American lifestyle, basket weaving was regarded as the most popular form of artistic work (Phillips and Berlo 13). In this case, basket weaving served a twofold purpose. Most of the American artists used corn husks and reeds to make complex woven baskets. Thereafter, the material was dyed to create tribal art on the basket. The final product was a beautiful, artistic piece of work that was also used as a normal basket. The weaving practice was quite prevalent in the Native American era, since; women would spend hours weaving to create colorful baskets. In most cases, the baskets were made from vegetable fibers (Phillips and Berlo 13). Moreover, there were other materials that were used in weaving of the baskets. The most common materials that were used apart from vegetable fibers include cedar bark, native grass and ivory carvings. The material used in making the basket defined the type of basket being made. Recently, weaving leads to ecological activism. Individuals from the Navajo tribe were well conversant with the weaving practice. They even made blankets from woven reeds. Most literary scholars assert that, the Native Americans were the first individuals to design beautiful implements. Furthermore, every artistic object they made entailed a detailed rationale. They developed different forms of artistic

Federalists Essay Example for Free

Federalists Essay Linda Kerber described the predicaments of the Federalists, a political party whose members feared that popular democracy might spin out of control. Although they both fostered economic development, the Federalists were aware that an urban grassroots would result. The believers of the Federalist Party believed that Jefferson’s approach to politics was naive. The early stages of industrialization and urban growth were providing the ingredients of a working class; already existing was an unpredictable class of permanently poor who might well be available for mob action. The God or the religious beliefs of the Federalists often appeared to behave like a fourth branch of Government. They believed that religious obligation would reinforce moral obligation and would make popular government orderly and stable. On the other hand the Jeffersonian supporters felt they should break down the barrier of habitual morality (religion), with the interruption of education, habit and superstitions they were confident they would have a more positive vice. Drew R. McCoy spoke of â€Å"The Fears of the Jeffersonian Republicans†. Jefferson and his supporters predicted the challenges for the future of the United States. They were fearful of creating a dependent class; he envisioned huge tracts of land being farmed by righteous residents of the young republic. In keeping their independence from the British they encouraged production â€Å"within our families†, but for the finer manufactures, they would continue to rely on importations from abroad. New forms of employment needed to be created in order to keep the moral and political advantages of America up. The largest fears were of an uprising of the working class people and independent revolutions. Ben Franklin recognized that corruption could result from both natural and artificial causes. Jefferson was always faced with the reality of his plan failing constantly reminded by the thought of the decline of the Roman Empire. I found this Chapter to be the hardest to read, I researched other sources to understand and get through the politics of this chapter. I found the internet website www. answers. com/topic/republicans-jeffersonian to be most helpful. The reading and rational was made for the freshman U.  S. History student. I was able to acknowledge the fact that the Federalists Convention was the process of breaking free from the British Empire. By the mid-eighteenth century a large proportion of adult white males in the colonies possessed the suffrage while also enjoying the privileges of a free press and some freedom of religious worship The colonies in other words, had grown apart from the mother country, their inhabitants had begun to think of themselves as Americans, and, not surprisingly, they proved unreceptive to attempts to bring them to strengthen.

Examine the argument that the cognitive, biological and environmental explanations of dyslexia are complementary. (Specimen) â€Å"Different perspectives lead to different theories. And different theories can provide insights into the same thing† Littelton et al Mapping Psychology 1 OU 2002 Dyslexia is a congenital condition that results in a primary difficulty in learning to read and write, although its behavioural symptoms are far more wide ranging than this. Uta Frith (1999) suggests there are 3 main perspectives on any developmental condition: behavioural perspective, cognitive perspective and biological perspective. She also emphasises the significant impact environmental factors can have in the explanations offered from the biological, cognitive and behavioural perspectives. This paper aims to outline and evaluate the â€Å"object of knowledge† of each perspective. From there it will identify and compare the methods used by each perspective and the intervention strategies proposed to facilitate â€Å"change†. In so doing, this paper will clarify whether the cognitive, biological and environmental explanations of dyslexia are complementary. All three perspectives offer different views of what they see as important in dyslexia research. Behavioural perspectives describe the behavioural signs experienced by people with dyslexia. Cognitive perspectives offer insights into the mental processes involved and influenced by dyslexia. The biological perspective is offers explanations of the behavioural symptoms in terms of possible biological origins eg. Genetic, neurophysiological, or biochemical. Each perspective obviously differs in their â€Å"object of knowledge† , yet all three remain focused on the condition of dyslexia. Evidently the behaviourist perspective conflicts with the cognitive perspective regarding mental processes and whether emphasis should be on just behaviour of behaviour that is used to make inferences about what is going on in the head. Behavioural perspectives use directly observable behaviour to establish the possibility of the presence of this developmental condition. They identify signs such as difficulty in linking sound to a symbol, orientation of letters (Samuel Orton twisted symbols), problems breaking up words into their constituent sound, difficulty sequencing information ( affects rote learning, m tables, expression of ideas) and mixed ... ...on to D. We discussed the object of knowledge of each and how they might extend our knowledge of D. We outlined some shortfalls of the perspectives but ultimately agree that each contribute to the depth of our understanding of D. It could be concluded that the 3 Perspectives complement each other in that each perspective deepens our understanding of dyslexia in its own way. As we have seen human behaviour and more specifically D, can be seen as a result of complex interactions between cognitive and other processes, influcedced by a whole range of interconnected and modifyable biological systems. Also we have seen how our environment can impact on all these levels. To conclude, the most comprehensible and useful account of D in my opinion would be to integrate the different psychological accounts . Only by asking questions from different perspectives do I feel a full explanation of the potential causes and strategies for remediation might be reached. In conclusion, different perspectives set different tasks and tap into different features of dyslexia. This paper considered the contributions these perspectives brought to dyslexia research and where they complement each other

Pursuing Happiness Essay

Human beings can give up many things to achieve happiness, sometimes they could be only be beneficial to themselves and be harmful for others. In the book, Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, Macbeth shows how he can do wrongful deeds such as committing murder to achieve his own happiness. Only after killing Duncan does he realize that he might have done something wrong and unjustful for the people around him, but later he murders yet another friend to keep his own happiness while disturbing others. William Shakespeare makes a great example of how people can become darker to fulfil their happiness and desires. Throughout the story Macbeth faces on Prophecies and encounters guilt but instead of embracing it he ignores it and becomes a darker person. By killing Duncan Macbeth is named king of Scotland and achieve what he always wanted, later on he becomes suspicious of his best friend Banquo and murders him as well. Macbeth keeps on becoming darker and darker and would do anything to keep his happiness and people from interfering with him. After killing Duncan Macbeth feels guilt for his actions and that â€Å"no ocean could ever watch off his bloody hands†. Only later on he kills his best friend Banquo because he thinks he know the truth behind King Duncan’s death. The author empires how Macbeth would go really far to keep the way things are including murdering everyone that interferes in his path. At this state Macbeth finally puts his guilt and enters his dark stage and starts to kill anyone of suspicion, as a result, Macduff’s family. Unfortunately Macbeth at this point has given up and thinks he’s lived a good enough life and wouldn’t mind to be laid to rest. William Shakespeare shows how Macbeth who was once honored to beside King Duncan has now committed great sins for his own selfishness. At the end Macbeth finally realises that he was wrong doing and only taking advantage of other people. One of the main reasons Macbeth felt it was necessary to kill King Duncan was because of Lady Macbeth. He loved her and felt she also needed to be happy and the only way was to kill Duncan. Although skeptical, Macbeth did the deed and felt terrible about it, Lady Macbeth taking advantage of Macbeth convinces Macbeth that it wasn’t actually a big deal. William Shakespeare shows how Macbeth can misguided and persuaded easily for his wife, and willing to go far enough to murder to give happiness and selfish desires for his loved one, Lady Macbeth. When Macbeth had ordered the murderers to kill Banquo, he wanted to stay happy with his wife but didn’t want her to get involved. This showed how Macbeth was willing to take the blame for his wife if he were to get caught. Although he was murdering Banquo for his sake of not getting caught he was also doing it for Lady Macbeth not getting anymore involved. Macbeth became a darker person so that Lady Macbeth could stay happy with him as King and Queen of Scotland. Through the end of the novel, Macbeth starts to realize who he has become because of his own selfishness, he realizes the how many people he has murdered to keep himself happy for his own sake and Lady Macbeth’s. Until the point where Macbeth just gives up on himself, â€Å"I have lived long enough.  My way of life Is fall’n into the sere, the yellow leaf, And that which should accompany old age. † Macbeth states that he has living long enough and wouldn’t mind dying because he has nothing more to live for. Shakespeare shows how Macbeth who was willing to do anything for happiness and has now become ill of it and had enough of the pointless slaughter. Once you have done everything to get happiness it isn’t happiness anymore because if you have all the sacrifices Macbeth had made. We all strive to achieve happiness doing either good or bad things to receive it. Macbeth had no ill intentions in killing King Duncan but for the sake of his wife he committed the crime. Until the end Macbeth only wanted happiness for himself and to achieve it he took a different path which lead to his downfall. Once we achieve happiness we frown upon it and think of it as always there but eventually you will lose it, nothing will be here forever. After Macbeth found out his wife had died, he didn’t care anymore because his time of happiness was gone, there was nothing left for him, he had lived a good enough life and if he was ready to die if he had to.

The Structure Of The Play As An Unfolding Of Ironic...

Dominik Sochon Mrs. Beiner and Professor Seufert HTH 101-01 10/19/15 Analyze the structure of the play as an unfolding of ironic revelation. In Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex, Oedipus attempts to escape the fate that seeks him. It seems as if the more he tries, the closer he gets to fulfilling his own fate. It is evident that Sophocles uses Oedipus’ hubris and arrogance as a way of foreshadowing what will happen to him at the end of the play. Throughout the play, Sophocles uses blindness and the inescapability of fate in order to create a play in which tragic irony triumphs. While the prophet that Oedipus summons, Teiresias, is blind, it is Oedipus who is unable to see. The irony of this situation is shown when Oedipus accuses Teiresias of being a â€Å"sightless, witless, senseless mad old man† (pg. 20). However, Teiresias seems to know more about Oedipus’ prophecy than what Oedipus knows of it. If Oedipus knew anything about his roots or what he had done as a child, he wouldn’t be summoning Teiresias to help him. At first, Teiresias refuses to abide to Oedipus’ request. Due to Oedipus’ hubris and arrogance, Oedipus gets infuriated and demands that Teiresias tells him what he knows about the murder. Teiresias abides to Oedipus’ request and responds by saying â€Å"I say that you are the murderer whom you seek† (pg. 20) and â€Å"You can not see the wretchedness of your life, / Nor in whose house you live, no, nor with whom. / Who are your father and mother? Early Indications For Child Abuse - 2081 Words

A constant obstacle humanity struggles with throughout the years is having some children face maltreatment from other people or care giver themselves. Notably, searches have been done to identify early indications for child abuse in pregnant woman, before the child is even born. The surveys in different states have been done to determined the cause and what type of children suffer through this common problem that goes around in the world. Therefore mistreatment can be seen in many perspectives like physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and neglecting a child all falls into the same meaning of the term ‘child abuse’. Additionally, children can get mistreated by different sorts of people that are in their lives. As a result, when a child is abused in any way, it can change the way they act towards others or themselves. No one knows when child abuse actually started, but it can be morally known that it has been upon us here as long as humanity has walked the earth. Children are born into the world because of adults and their choices to conceive. A child is born without knowing and do not carry instructions for adults on how to raise one, but many children have the disadvantage to live in abuse by the poor choices adults make. Nathan the Wise free essay sample

This supported Lessing’s belief that even contradictory religions could nevertheless be equally true; and therefore religious diversity was not a problem but itself evidence of the divine plan. Lessing believed that God had accommodated people by showing them the world according to their ability to perceive it. For example, Recha turns to religion for an explanation to try and satisfy her understanding through divinity, just as all humans try to understand life with religion. This notion is also vividly illustrated in Nathan’s parable of the rings. Lessing wrote: If God held all truth in his right hand and the sole everlasting urge for truth in his left, with the result that I should be determined to be forever and always mistaken, and said to me, ‘Choose’, I would humbly pick the left hand and say, ‘Father, grant me that. Absolute truth is for you alone. ’† This statement speaks lengths about Lessing’s view of religious truth and his theory of humankind. Moses Mendelssohn (1729-1786) was â€Å"Lessing’s friend, chess partner, and philosophical soul mate (8)†. Mendelssohn is the model for Nathan. Lessing was very influenced by Mendelssohn and the two were very close. Mendelssohn was praised for possessing such knowledge and being ‘Jewish’, the two did not go hand in hand during this period. People during this time could not understand how smart he was and judged him based on his religion. For a Jew to be called wise was of controversy. Although, this is the not the first time we notice Lessing’s illustration of controversy between religions. In his Five-act play, The Jews, Lessing depicts an anonymous traveler that rescues a baron and his daughter from a band of thieves. It is then revealed that the hero is a Jew, the baron is grateful and expresses a condescending expression of thanks that reveals his prejudice, â€Å"Oh how respectable the Jews would be if they were all like you! † the Jewish traveler replied â€Å"And how worthy of love the Christians would be if they all possessed your features! † Thus, this type of depiction of a Jew being brave or generous quickly excited dispute. Like Montesquieu, Lessing criticized the superiority of Christianity. Voltaire insisted on the equal worth and truth of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Lessing’s juxtaposition of Christians and Non Christians invites the reader to doubt the superiority of their religion. He also is trying to send a message to the reader that Christians do not have a monopoly on virtue and religious truth. Sittah thought that the plan was perfect: to embarrass Nathan by asking him which religion he thinks best. This begins to bring about momentum in the play and the reader begins to become very engaged. Nathan stresses an important point saying, â€Å"The true ring was indistinguishable†¦ almost as indistinguishable as the true religion is to us (72)†. Saladin attempts to corner him and saying that this is the answer to his question, then Nathan clearly depicts how the same standard is applied to everyone, and just as the rings are identical as our the traditions we are accustomed to. By the end of the exchange Saladin merely wishes to be Nathan’s friend. It is interesting to note that the Knight Templar is the person who saves Recha because of the fact that the Christian Crusaders massacred Nathan’s wife and seven sons. Lessing shows his true colors when depicting the Friar. He shows the reader that the Friar is a good-hearted person that portrays to the audience that the concept of doing the right thing doesn’t necessarily mean doing what religion tells you. The Friar saw Recha as God’s reward for the death of Nathan’s family, and believed it to be Nathan’s destiny to become the father of Recha. It is interesting how Lessing depicts Nathan as being wise because this would encompass all of his actions to that standard. It is also interesting how Nathan does not seek revenge upon Recha—a daughter of the crusaders—which implies that one generation is not responsible for another’s crimes. Nathan simply accepts his ‘decree’ as from God. The main point Lessing is conveying to the audience is this idea that we are all the same just distinguished by religious labels. The Templar says, â€Å"Because it goes without saying? A Templar in love with a Jewish girl! (79)† When the audience finds out that Recha is actually the Templar’s sister the idea of separation amongst religions seems to disappear. This is how the whole play connects and the message to the audience becomes clear. We may all be different types of humans but we are all human.

MONITORING AND OPTIMIZATION Essays - Computer Storage Devices

MONITORING AND OPTIMIZATION PERFORMANCE MONITOR AND NETWORK MONITOR PERFORMANCE MONITOR Windows NT Object Counters in Performance Monitor OBJECTPURPOSE CacheL2 cache performance Logical diskMass storage performance, including network storage MemoryMemory performance and usage ObjectsProcess and tread counts Paging fileVirtual memory usage Physical diskHD performance Process Performance of executing processes Processor Processor(s) performance SystemWindows NT performance Thread Individual thread performance You will also see objects for each network service installed. MONITORING FOR PROCESSOR BOTTLENECKS MAJOR PROCESSOR RELATED COUNTERS TO WATCH: Processor: %Processor Time - How busy the microprocessor is. Processor is a bottleneck if sustained >80% Processor: Interrupts/sec - Rate of service requests from peripheral devices. If you have a high rate of interrupts/sec with no corresponding hardware functions then you may have a bad piece of hardware. Should be between 100 and 1000. Spikes to 2000 are ok. System: Processor queue length - Number of threads waiting to be serviced. >2 then processor is a bottleneck. Queue length will always be zero unless you are also monitoring a thread specific counter (Context switches/sec is number of threads switched/sec by the processor and is good to use). MONITORING THE DISK FOR BOTTLENECKS IF THE DISK LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME, YOU NEED MORE RAM More Ram will increase the size of the disk cache and decrease page swapping to disk and will increase the apparent speed of the disk. Logical disk vs. Physical disk Two different objects in Performance monitor. Logical disk measures performance of stripe sets, volume sets and mapped network drives. Physical disk measures real transfers to and from actual hard disk or RAID set. Used to compare disks and to provide specific information about a disk. MAJOR DISK RELATED COUNTERS TO WATCH: Memory: Pages/sec shows the number of memory pages swapped out to disk per second. Useful with %disk time: modify the size of the page file and watch the result of these two disk counters. %Disk time does not directly measure the disk. It shows how much time the processor is spending servicing disk requests. Use with Processor: %Processor Time to determine if the disk is eating up the processor. Disk bytes per second shows how fast your disk is. Copy a big file and see if your disk is way fast or a piece of junk. Average disk bytes per transfer shows how big the average transfer is. Larger transfers are more efficient. Current Disk queue length shows how much data is waiting to be transferred to disk. A long queue means you need a faster disk. NOTE: You must enable disk counters, they are disabled by default and will cause a degradation of about 2% in performance due to processor load of the counter. To enable disk performance counters: type diskperf -y at the command prompt to enable auto counter startup at boot. Reboot. To disable disk performance counters: type diskperf -n at the command prompt to disable auto counter startup at boot. Reboot. NETWORK MONITOR Is a trimmed down version of what ships with SMS. Is installed by adding Network monitor tools and agent through the services tab of the network icon in control panel. Can provide real time and cumulative saved data. FOUR MAIN SECTIONS Bar graph in real time. Session statistics shows cumulative data about conversations taking place on the network in real time. Station statistics shows information on each conversation. You must specify the machine (station) you want to monitor and is cumulative for the monitoring period. Summary statistics are cumulative and show network, captured, per second, NIC (MAC), and NIC error statistics. Data can be filtered by protocol, computer address, or protocol properties. Filter by computer address to identify a NIC sending data frames when not in use (bad NIC). Netmon can be dual password protected and will let you identify other instances of Netmon running on the network. This is to prevent unauthorized users from capturing data to which they do not have permission to access. Conflict Sybex Network Press: MCSE NT Server 4 Study Guide says, ?The limited version of network monitor that ships with Windows NT Server does not support promiscuous mode. Therefore, it can capture only packets sent to the server or to all stations.? But? Windows NT Online Help for Performance Monitor says, The Nework Monitor agent collects statistics from the computer's network adapter card by putting it in promiscuous mode.?

The Treaty Of Versaille Essays - FranceGermany Relations

The Treaty of Versaille The Treaty of Versaille "It was neither a vindictive, harsh peace nor a lenient one, desdigned to reconcile." How far does this description of the Treaty of Versailles explain why it contained the seeds of the Second World War? In 1919, the major world powers met at the Paris peace conference to determine the fate of Europe at the end of World War 1. Europe was in turmoil. Five empires had disappeared, millions of people were dead, both military and civilians, and revolution fuelled by the forces of nationalism and socialism seemed ready to destroy the hopes of a future and lasting peace. The major world leaders were hoping to accomplish a miracle at Versailles, peace. Nevertheless, the conditions that they were faced with made that hope only more difficult not only in the writing of the treaty but also in reaching its objectives. The dream of a Settlement to satisfy both winners and losers was both impossible and contradictory. For Germany the outcome in years to come was the exact objective that the Treaty had tried all along to impede - domination of Europe. What went wrong? Why? These questions have plagued historians for years. If only the players had acted in a different fashion would the future outcomes have been different. Or was the situation of Europe such at the time that the future was fated no matter what. What did the leaders want to do? The Council of Five (Britain, the U.S., Italy, Japan and France) wanted to destroy Germany's power in Europe and to make her pay for the costs of war. They wanted peace but Germany was to pay for that peace, not only by reducing its army, reducing its fishing fleet and relinquishing part of its heavy shipping fleet, but also by ceding land, sending coal, livestock, machinery and money to those countries who had suffered by the war. Germany was pronounced to be the sole aggressor of the war and therefore it was Germany who had to 'pay the bill'. Supposedly, Germany was to be treated as an equal in Europe but at the same time, Germany was not invited to participate in the writing up of the Treaty. Rather, they were literally given the ultimatum to sign the treaty with no option whatsoever. Germany was to have an Allied Army in its land and they were to pay for that Army. How can these terms be considered to being treated as an equal? Furthermore the coal of the Saar region had to be sent to France for a period of fifteen years at the end of that time it would be decided under whose area of jurisdiction the Saar was to be under. Obviously the Treaty was written up in a way so as to diminish the power of Germany, at home and abroad. At the end, there was no abroad, since Germany lost all its colonies. What was the treaty like? The potential of Germany military and economic superiority in Germany was a strong threat to the writers of the Treaty. This had to be stopped at all costs. The easiest way for the writers of the Treaty to achieve this goal was to require financial retribution for the war. If Germany was stripped of its economy then industrial growth would not be possible. Furthermore if the fruit of that industry had to be sent to the countries who had suffered during the war, then Germany would produce for the victors and not for themselves. In this way, enough would be left for Germany to get by, but not enough for it to become a power again. Alsace-Lorraine was ceded to France. France was thrilled, if they had had their way; perhaps another area of Germany would have been ceded to them, the Saar, a major coal producing area. German rivers were internationalized. This is important in the feeling of humiliation of Germany because until that time, Germany was very closed and did not like foreign presence on their land, particularly in this way. The map of Western Europe was redrawn. Lithuania, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Estonia, and Latvia were created. Many of these new countries had to accommodate substantial minorities within their borders. Families, who were once citizens of one nation, suddenly found themselves citizens of two different nations because of the new map. More importantly, large groups of German-speaking people suddenly found themselves as citizens of Poland and Czechoslovakia. It was very difficult for the writers of the Treaty to accomplish what they had set out to do because of many factors. To begin with, 27
